Types of Teaching Staff

A fully qualified teacher (FQT) is a teacher who has successfully completed a teacher training course and has been awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). QTS is a professional teaching qualification required to teach in maintained schools in England. A PGCE is a postgraduate certificate in education, which is one of the routes to QTS.

An overseas-trained teacher within the UK system is a qualified educator who has completed their teaching qualification outside of the UK. They may have experience teaching in a different educational system and culture and have undergone additional training and assessment to meet UK standards. These teachers bring diverse skills, perspectives and experiences to the classroom and can help address teacher shortages in certain subject areas or regions.

Teaching assistants are invaluable to the success of classrooms, providing support to both teachers and students. They are responsible for setting up activities, preparing lessons, helping individual students, and providing support to those with special needs.

Are you a 3rd or 4th year PGCE student looking for a way to supplement your income? Why not take advantage of your available days and do some supply teaching for an extra source of cash! It’s a great way to gain extra experience and make some extra money.

Cover supervisors are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of a classroom in the absence of the regular teacher. They have the vital role of keeping students on task and being available to answer any queries they may have.

An Early Career Teacher (ECT) in the UK is a newly qualified teacher who is in their first year of teaching. ECTs are responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, and creating a positive and engaging learning environment. They must have a strong knowledge of the subjects they teach and be able to effectively communicate this knowledge to their students. As an ECT, you will work closely with other teachers and school staff to provide the best possible education for your students. You will also receive ongoing support and guidance as you develop your teaching skills and gain experience in the classroom.

The role of a SEND teacher is to provide highly qualified instruction to students with special educational needs, utilising a range of strategies to help meet their individual learning needs, including those related to learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or behavioural issues.

Instructors provide valuable knowledge and expertise in a wide range of subject areas, despite not having a formal teaching qualification. With their prior experience in a classroom environment, instructors are able to register for work and bring their unique skillset to the table.

A tutor within an education environment is a person who provides one-on-one or small-group instruction to students. They are experts in a particular subject area and can help students to improve their understanding of the material, develop study skills, and prepare for exams.
